IBEW Local 2320 celebrates the dedication of our members and wants to highlight the meaningful work they do. In this member feature, we are excited to spotlight Peggy McCarthy of Fidium (formerly Consolidated Communications).
Get to Know Peggy McCarthy
Peggy McCarthy is a Central Office Technician at Fidium. She is a highly knowledgeable and experienced professional who always takes the time to explain her work when issues arise. Besides being an active and productive member, Peggy has also served multiple terms on our Executive Board as both Vice President and Unit Representative. In addition to her contributions to our Local and her affiliation with multiple labor advocacy groups, Peggy is also a political powerhouse. Her extensive understanding of and involvement in state politics was instrumental in helping New Hampshire unions defeat Right-to-Work legislation.
How are you making an impact?
As a former member of NH House Leadership and NH political participant since 2008, Peggy leveraged her unique experience and knowledge to help advance Labor’s legislative priorities at the state level, most notably against Right-to-Work. This includes testifying in front of legislative committees, offering insight to help develop strategies with other labor organizations, meeting with elected officials and candidates for office to ensure working families are part of the conversation, and most importantly, keeping our membership informed about what is going on and how they can contribute.
You might find Peggy dressed professionally at the State House (or on the evening news!), at a meet-and-greet for a political candidate (of any party), speaking at a labor event, or most often bundled up on a sub-zero morning alongside her Union brothers and sisters as we make our voices heard. Peggy believes that there is nothing as empowering as telling our leaders and lawmakers exactly what we need from them (respectfully, of course!).
What's a fun fact about yourself?
Peggy is an avowed pug admirer – she has owned 7 so far!
Do you have a personal or meaningful quote?
Peggy’s favorite quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt: “It is not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.”
